Sometimes I get lucky and get to be witness to amazing things.
A few years ago I met Kisha through a mutual friend. So, for the past few years I’ve gotten to know Kisha as we have attended the birthdays, pool parties, New Year’s Eve parties and any other situation we could all think of to get together and have fun. Even when she was going through hard times, she has always been quick with a joke and a laugh. Kisha is the kind of person who will laugh at you while helping you pick yourself up off the ground from some stupid thing you did.
When she met Matt, it wasn’t long before we found that the relatively quiet giant she was with was alot like Kisha herself, quick with a joke and a smile. Matt is the kind of guy who would laugh at Kisha for trying to “dive” into a pool only to accomplish a belly flop, but he would then corner her later and wrap her in his big arms.
Kisha has one son. Matt has two. For the past couple of years as Kisha and Matt have grown closer, so have the boys. I will be honest, they remind me of me and my brother. In one breath they can’t stand each other and then the next they’re playing together doing the kind of things only boys will do. They have grown into a family.
Which is why, when Kisha said she was getting married..none of us even blinked. To us…Kisha, Matt and her boys were already a family.
I got to take MOST of the pictures for this wedding. I got to officiate the actual ceremony, my first ever. But they both told me they loved it afterward…despite how nervous I had been…and how hot and sweaty I was from running around and then standing in the sunlight. But, you know…that’s Matt and Kisha…easy going…more concerned with the results than the process being perfect. They’re a good couple. They’re a good family. And I’m glad I got to witness it coming into being…
